Ilitch Large Coil Noise Canceling Systems (LCNCS)

Guitars with one, two or three single coil pickups, originally equipped with Strat or Tele style pickguard or any other guitar brand having similar geometry/size pickguard, or semi hallow or hallow body guitar can be retrofitted with the LCNCS. The LCNCS is an extremely low impedance air coil assembly, designed to produce an appropriate noise signal to be subtracted from the noise produced by regular single coil pickups installed on a guitar. The large coil is permanently placed in a tiny channel (The routed channel is about 3-5 mm wide and about 12 mm deep) machined around the pickups and under the existing guitar pickguard or the LCNCS is placed and attached inside of the semi/full hallow body guitar.
The circumference of the LCNCS coil are:
1. Regular – about 21.5″ or 546 mm
2. Compact – about 19.75″ or 502 mm

“Several months ago I posted a review of the Ilictch noise cancelling coil and this is a followup post. I initially had it installed in a 5126 with TV Jones T-Armonds and it worked very well at suppressing hum associated with the single coil pickups but there was always a question as to whether or not it affected the frequency response. Today I had the pickups transferred to my 6120DS and the tech installed a temporary in/out switch so we could A/B the sound with the coil engaged and out of the circuit. We tried it in different locations in his shop , including the bench directly under the florescent lights next to the solder station, and through a couple of different amps. I am very happy to say that there was absolutely NO change in the frequency range of the pickups; no change in the tone at all in any register, low or high. The only change was the reduction of noise when the coil was engaged. Just thought I’d post this in response to this question that was on my mind and probably others’ as well.” -Roy
